Naoshi
is a Japanese artist based in Los Angeles. Drawing inspiration from manga and
fantasy, she creates a vibrant, candy-colored world populated by whimsical
cartoon-like characters. Using Sunae,
a traditional Japanese sand-painting technique that involves applying brightly
colored fine-grain sand onto adhesive surfaces, she transforms a meticulous
process into playful, immersive works that can expand into large-scale
installations.

The
characters inhabiting these imagined worlds are often quiet and expressionless,
inviting viewers to project their own emotions and interpretations onto them.
Through humorous, endearing, and sometimes awkward depictions of everyday
